I had the whole family over when the postie delivered it.. I had to take a peak (I should have been listening to the story my Mum was telling me!!) Totally distracted by the over whelming beautiful fat quarters that were included.. take one look at the pattern and shout "I'm going to be making Christmas crackers!!!!"
I'm really into being environmental friendly, homemade, supporting small businesses and being able to reuse a product. I'd seen these last year on FB where some one had made their own Christmas crackers.. now to have the pattern in my hand!!!!! Omg! Beyond excited.
So in our November box..
3 x fat quarters by Lewis and Irene
(From the Secret winter garden)
Heavy interfacing
Ribbon, hats, snaps!
Hook and loop tape
Pattern and colour instructions sheet!!
Silver chocolate balls!
Most of you that read my blog know I start with... A cup of coffee, eat the sweet treat and cut out and glue the pattern to a cereal box so I can easily draw around the pattern and reuse it!!
Are you with me? Super..
So your pattern pieces need to be laid out on your fabric.. Stop and think directional of your fabric! Before I started cutting.. I could see that two fat quarters were going to make four crackers...Only if I used fabric from my personal stock for the lining.
Well I have 8 people that will need crackers.. so before I started I decided I did want to sew 8 crackers so popped out and purchased more supplies of hook and loop tape, interfacing, ribbon and another FQ that would compliment those that arrived in my Subscription box!
You need to cut 2x main, 2x end, 4x interfacing and 2x lining pieces for one cracker. It's all fully explained in the instructions and on all of the pattern pieces.
Now I'll be truthful... I did cheat.. from the Members only FB group. I'd seen that Nikola from LMS&S had done a video!!!!
Absolutely well done her.. as we could sew along! Brilliant idea.. so I did. Had all my pieces cut and did a sew along. I was sooooo pleased with how my first one turned out..
Just a complete added extra from these super Subscription boxes.. that special touch of taking the time to make and upload a video is amazing!!
Well I went on to make a couple more that day and the next until I finally had my eight.. I have downloaded some jokes to print out and have purchased some little gifts to pop inside. I decided not to buy more snaps than those provided because the velcro makes enough resistance and has a great sound to it. So I don't think anyone will miss the snaps.
I will be able to reuse these wonderful crackers year after year.. my cracker subscription box from Little miss sew n sew will just keep giving long after it was sent to me.
A fabulous subscription from a really fantastic small business!!
